StephensonÕs 0-4-0 Lancashire Witch, 1828

 

Description by Wescott: From plates in Armedes des Mines, Tome VI, 1829. Two inclined outside cylinders, 9 in. by 24 in., at the firebox end of the boiler, drove the front wheels. The boiler had two single flues and had a heating surface of 66 sq. ft. Wheelbase 5 ft. Weight 7 tons. A wooden inside frame was used and both axles were mounted on springs. Loose eccentric valve gear.
