DEATH FOLLOWS BRIEF ILLNESS Mrs. Grace C. Walrad, 13 Lincoln-ave., Victim of Pneumonia
Mrs. Grace C. Walrad, 79, the wife of the late Calvin P. Walrad of 13 Lincoln-ave., died at her home last night at 8 o'clock following an illness of three days, death being attributed to pneumonia. Mrs. Walrad was born in the town of Homer, March 6, 1847 and she was the daughter of Alfred L. and Samantha Chamberlain. She was the last of a family of four children.
The deceased received her education at the Homer academy and Wells college. She was married to Calvin P. Walrad at Homer, Sept. 3, 1873, coming to this city shortly afterwards and for more than 50 years was a highly respected resident of Lincoln-ave. The death of Mrs. Walrad occurred March 4, 1916.
Mrs. Walrad was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian church and for 14 years she held the office of president of the Foreign Missionary society. She was a charter member of both the Daughters of the American Revolution, Tioghnioga chapter; and of the Ladies Literary club.
Mrs. Walrad was a woman of charming personality and traits, an individual of many warm friends and regarded in the highest esteem by all who knew her.
She is survived by three children: G.W. McKee, Miss Anna Walrad and Alfred C. Walrad, all of Cortland. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Henry C. Walrad, Alfred A. Walrad, Katherine H. Walrad, Robert, Frank, Calvin and Jean McKee of Cortland.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the late residence. The remains will be placed in the vault of the Cortland Rural cemetery, awaiting burial in the family plot in the spring. -Cortland Standard, 12 Jan 1927
