CLYDE E. STECKEL, son of Theodore and Lucy A. (Fehnel) Steckel, was born Dec. 9, 1884, at Pen Argyl, Northampton county. He was educated in the public schools and putting aside his books at the age of sixteen years, learned the carpenter trade with his father, at Allentown, and followed this vocation as a journeyman until he engaged in contracting and building, in 1907, in partnership with his brother, Claude U., under the firm name of Steckel Brothers, with office at 1110 Chew Street. They make a specialty of residential houses. In 1907 they built four houses, in 1908 six houses, in 1909 one house, 1910 ten houses, in 1911 twenty-eight houses, and in 1912 twenty-three houses. Clyde E. Steckel married, Sept. 8, 1904, Mamie A. Seip, daughter of Tilghman and Mary (Wisser) Seip. They have five children: (1) Evelyn; (2) Theodore; (3) Kenneth; (4) Kermit; (5) Marjorie. He and his family are members of the Trinity United Evangelical church.
