Bedfast for four weeks, James D. Bauer, husband of the late Anna, nee Barner, Bauer, died at 4:45 o'clock Thursday morning at his home, 44 W. Main St., Macungie. He was aged 84 years, 9 months, 17 days. A son of the late Charles and Maria, nee Danner, Bauer, he was born in Lower Macungie township, Lehigh county, and in former years was employed in that vicinity as a carriage builder. With the coming of the automobile, he became a house painter and paper hanger, which trades he followed until blindness overtook him 15 years ago, when he retired. Active in civic and social affairs, he was a member of the P.O.S. of A., Washington Camp, Macungie; the Macungie Beneficial Assn., and of the fire company of that borough. Prior to his blindness, he was a member of borough council. He belonged to the Grace Lutheran church in Macungie and served in the council of that church for many years. Surviving him are one sister, Mrs. Kate DeLong of Bethlehem and several nephews and nieces. His wife died 15 years ago. Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at his late home. Interment in Union cemetery, Macungie.
