Lorenzo Leonard, b. January 6, 1827, at Lebanon, Pa.; was educated in the schools of the town and at the old Lebanon Academy; learned tanning and leather-dressing, the former of which occupations he followed many years; made two trips across the plains to the Pacific coast - one in 1852, when the undertaking was a hazardous one, the other in 1871 ; during the war for the Union he was captain of company E, 127th regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, subsequently in the 26th regiment, Pennsylvania militia, as major; and participated in the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg; was assistant burgess of Lebanon borough, and, in 1884-5, a mail agent in the Government employ. Major Greenawalt m., September 15, 1881, Anna Gorgas, b. in Stiliwater, Minn.; daughter of Colonel Adam Gorgas.
