Herbert S. Balliet, one of the early Electrical Engineers, died at his home in West Nyack, N. Y., on March 29, 1943. He was 75 years of age, having been born on February 26, 1868, at Neffs, Lehigh County. His long connection with electric communications began as a telegraph operator and train dispatcher for the Berks-Lehigh Railroad. In 1885, he joined the Western Union Telegraph Company. He developed their synchronizing lock service and served as manager for their various offices as well as for the Adams Express Company. In 1905, he entered the employ of the New York Central Railroad, retiring in 1932 but remaining active as a consulting engineer until his death.

He was the grandson of Paul Balliet and wife, Salome (Moyer) Balliet, the early pioneers at Ballietsville. His father was Paul E. Balliet and his mother, Mary E. (Neff) Balliet. Mr. Balliet married Grace E. Cortright, and is survived by one son, R. H. C. Balliet of Nannet, New York.
