Sylvester D. Woodring, the second son of Moses, was born at Mechanicsville on June 30, 1856. He attended the public schools at Egypt and then learned the trade of carpenter. He was engaged for a time in supplying stones to the Kleckner limekilns, and afterward worked in the car shops at Stenton. In 1884, he moved to Ballietsville and conducted the hotel there for eight years; then he sold the stand and purchased the Frank Brown property, there he has since resided. Since 1904 he has filled the position of carpenter in the employ of the Lehigh Portland Cement Company, at Ormrod. He has served as a poor director, supervisor and auditor of the township, and director of the Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company, of Trexlertown.

He was married to Mary Ann Kleckner, daughter of John and Lydia (Troxell) Kleckner, and they have five children: Daisy A, married William Handwork; Jennie M.; Sadie L.; George M., and Stanley J. They are members of the Reformed church at Egypt, which he has sewed as deacon, elder and trustee.
