Eli J. Saeger, son of General Jos. K.. Saeger, was born Nov. 2, 1818. He came to Allentown in 1834 and became a clerk in the store of Pretz. Saeger & Company, and later entered his father's foundry, where he assisted in erecting the first steam engine in the county. In 1840 he went into partnership in the mercantile business with John P. Boas, and in 1857 became president of the Catasauqua National Bank. He was also a justice of the peace for a number of years. He died Oct. 1, 1888. He married Sarah A. Spinner, daughter of George Spinner. She died Jan. 21, 1905, at Aukona, Indian River. Florida, aged 83 years.
