Dexter, a coachmaker, had the homestead of thirty acres, situated at the base of the Blue Mountains. He was born Sept. 27, 1857, and at an early age learned his trade from Waidelich & Ely, for whom he worked many years. In 1892, he came into possession of his farm but he continues working at his trade besides farming.

On Aug. 17, 1879, he married Janetta Lutz, daughter of Abraham and Catharine (Bailey) Lutz. She died March 31, 1890, aged 30 years, 7 months and 25 days. Their children were: George F., Samuel T., Robert A, and John A. On March 17, 1893, he married, as his second wife.
