Milton Steckel, son of Ephraim, was born at Egypt, 3/5/1856. He was reared upon the farm and in 1878 moved to Jefferson Township. Berks county, where the farmed for five years and in 1883 moved to Whitehall, where he has successfully operate a truck farm for twenty-two years, the first 18 years of which he regularly attended the Allentown markets. Since 1906 he has been a cement contractor, employing from three to five men in making curbs, gutters and pavements of cement. In 1909 he was elected a member of the township school board as a democrat and in 1911 was re-elected, under the new code laws and is the first treasurer of the new board. He is an active member of the Egypt Reformed Congregation and served five years as deacon, two years as elder and two years as trustee, and since 1906 has been superintendent of the Union Sunday School. He married, first Sept 29, 1877, Isabella Troxell, born 6/18/1857 d. 8/29/1903. They had 7 children.
