Ernest S. Truchses, the youngest son, was born Aug. 7, 1842. In Ocotber, 1854, he arrived in Philadelphia to live with his uncle, John Schlienz. He attended the public schools until he was fourteen years old, when his uncle taught himself the shoemaking trade, which he followed until May 1, 1882, when he removed to Allentown and there he has since resided. For seventeen years he conducted a grocery store at Second and Gordon Streets. After living retired for a time, he resumed shoemaking in July, 1900, under the belief that "to labor was not only rest but comfort and long life."

In 1867. Mi. Tnichses was married to Caroline, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Schmidt )Micbaelman (the father a native of Hesse Cassel and the mother of Bavaria).
