John W. Schwartz was born August 19, 1832 in Maxatawny township. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits for many years. For five years was engaged in butchering in Allentown, and for a period of six years kept a grocery store. He and his wife, Polly, a daughter of John and Sarah (Newhard) Miller, are members of the Egypt Reformed congregation in which Mr. Schwartz has served both as deacon and elder:
