George Roth, his eldest son was born in North Whitehall, Aug. 30, 1820, and died Dec. 23.1879- He was educated in the schools of the township and was a clerk in stores at Siegersville and Treichlers until he took up farming.

He was a Republican in politics, and for many years postmaster at Siegersville. He was a member of the Jordan Lutheran church In October. 1858, he assisted in the workings of the underground railroad of ante bellum days, and was known as one of the most outspoken, antislavery men in this region. He married, in 1844. Sarah Ricker, daughter of Joseph Ricker and Mary Buck of Maxatawny, Berks County. They had one child, a son, William F.
