Thomas Mechling, 1751 to 1785, took possession of the farm on his 21st birthday, his father having died before his majority. He married Katharine Welsh, concerning whose antecedents nothing is known, except that she came from Northampton County, near Easton. Thomas Mechiing was lieutenant in the 3d company, Captain Peter Schuller, 2d Battalion, Colonel George Breinig, Northampton county PA, Militia, and served with that regiment during the Revolution.

Thomas Mechling died at the early age of 34. His widow with her five children, moved back to her old home where she married a widower by the name of Oberley, who also had a number of children. These two families of children, and a third set which arrived later, were all brought up there together in Northampton County.
