David Weida, was born May 4, 1814. He was educated in the common schools; also in New Jersey and at the Allentown Academy. In 1838, he began commercial life in connection with his brother as a merchant at Weidasville, which his brother as a merchant at Weidasville, which he continued for a limited time. The cultivation of a farm and the butcher business also engaged his attention, and he acquired a competency by 1858 which enabled him to retire at Allentown, where he made his home.

In 1838, he married Caroline Krause, a daughter of Philip Krause, of Heidelberg. She died May 11, 1854. They had two children: Owen J. and Sarah E. (married to Lewis D. Krause of Allentown). He married on September 1, 1857, as his second wife. Mrs. Jonas Haas, a daughter of Andrew Shifferstein, and she died March 11, 1877. Mr. Weida served for a time as a director of the Allentown National Bank, and during his active career he also frequently served as administrator of estates and filled other important offices of trust. In politics he was a Whig and later a Republican. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
