Peter Rhoads, second son of Peter Rhoads, was born in Allentown, April 28, 1771. He was educated in the schools at Allentown and at Franklin College, Lancaster, where he graduated as a member of the first class in 1789. He became a surveyor and in 1821 was appointed deputy surveyor of the county. Upon the organization of the Northampton Bank in 1814, he was elected president and continued as such until his death in 1836. In 1822, he was a candidate for Congress on the Whig ticket. He was many years the representative of Mrs. Mary Livingston, owner of one-third of Allentown, in her real estate transactions, and was trustee of the Allentown Academy. He died at his residence, 109 North Seventh Street, July 8, 1836, and was buried in the old Allentown cemetery. He matted Barbara, daughter of George Graff. She was born April 29, 1773 and died June 4, 1806, aged 93 years. They were members of Zion Reformed church, and had seven children.
