George Rhoads was born Jan. 24, 1769. He assisted his father in the store and became a carpenter and cabinet-maker. He was town clerk of the borough in 1811 and in 1812 a member of the first grand jury. In 1810, he opened a hotel at Seventh and Linden streets and was at this time also lieutenant-colonel in the militia. He was clerk of the county commissioners from 1813 to 1818, and from 1827 to 1832, and county treasurer in 1841. He was a Justice of the peace from 1835 to 1840 and had his office at 532 Hamilton Street. He died at Allentown, Sept. 12, 1851- He married, in 1789, Christianna Ealer, who was born March 9. 1769. and died March 24, 1862. They had six children.
