Ray T. Kern, Sr., 67, assistant superintendent at Allentown Hospital, died there Monday morning.
Kern, who resides at 751 N. 20th St., Allentown, was a patient at the institution for the last 14 weeks and had been ill since July 29.
Prior to entering the employ of the hospital in January 1932 as chief accountant, he was associated with the McKeever-Kern firm, accountants and auditors.
He was graduated from Slatington High School and the American Business College. He had also been employed as a bookkeeper by the C. A. Dorney Furniture Co. for several years.
An active church worker, he was a member of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and formerly as superintendent of the Sunday School.
He was also secretary-treasurer of the Boy Scout troop of the church and treasurer of the Allentown Sunday School Assn., as well as secretary of the Eastern Central Hospital Assn.
In addition to his position at the hospital, he served as president and treasurer of the Thomas Kern Lumber Co., Slatington, which was founded by his grandfather.
Kern was born in Slatington on July 14, 1886, a son of the late Robert S. and Susan (Lentz) Kern.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary K. (Frederick) Kern; a daughter, June K., wife of Harold Williams, Allentown; a son, Ray T. Kern Jr., Drexel Hill; and two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Arthur, and a sister, Alva.
