Nicholas Kern was born Nov. 17, 1793, at Emerald, and died there Jan. 7, 1868. He had a tract of about 300 acres of land, which was eventually divided into four farms and apportioned to his children. He married Elizabeth Hartman, born Jan. 15, 1798, died Nov. 2, 1877, and both Mr. and Mrs. Kern were interred at Frieden's Reformed church cemetery. Both were members of this church.
