John Erdman, son of Jacob and Catharine (Romig) Erdman, was born n Upper Saucon Township in 1803, and died in 1883. In his early manhood he removed to Whitehall Township, where he purchased a farm near Egypt. His land remained in the hands of his estate for twenty years after his death, when it was sold to the Allentown Portland Cement Co. In the latter years of his life he lived retired. He was an ardent Democrat in politics, and was elected a county commissioner in 1855 and later served a term as poor director of the county. He was a member of the building committee that erected the present Egypt church in 1850-51. He married Hannah Keck, of Salisbury Township.
