Misc. Notes

Robert's obituary from "The Clearfield Republican" dated August 18, 1875.

"Another Gone - Our County has lost another highly esteemed citizen in the person of Robert Daugherty. He expired at his home, in Morris Township on the 26th day of July, in his 78th year. He was born in Clinton County, and removed to this County about 26 years ago. He leaves a wife and six children - five sons and one daughter. (Note: Robert outlived 5 of his children.) The youngest sons aged 27 years are twins. His death brought together one of the largest funeral processions that ever met in Morris Township. That is an index of the character of the deceased, and goes to show how highly he was esteemed by his friends and neighbors. He was a first class mechanic, his chief pursuits being that of a mill-wright and bridge builder. The bridge across Clearfield Creek east of this borough, was erected by him. He was engaged in putting the new bridge across the river at Deer Creek at the time of his death. The chief legacy that he left his family is a durable one, and one that will allow him to rest "over there." The testimony of his neighbors, and those with whom he had business transactions, always was: "He is a honest man." That, after all, is the best monument a human being can erect. We knew him long and well. Farewell!"
