NameElizabeth Smyth
Birthabt 1602, Whatfield, Suffolk, England
Death16 Mar 1686, Hadley, MA
Misc. Notes
Perhaps her maiden name was Chilead or Chilab but these have been submissed.

Wife of Samuel Smith. She landed in Boston from England in 1634, along with her husband and four oldest children. Her parentage and origins are unknown at this time, though her surname has been identified as Smith(or Smyth) from parish registers of St.Margaret's, Whatfield, Co. Suffolk where her marriage to Samuel is recorded.

Earlier resources indicating her surname to have been "Chileab" have been refuted. "Samuel Smith married Elizabeth Smith 6 Oct 1624 at St Margaret Church Whatfield, Suffolk Co. ENG. The church record is in Suffolk Co. Their 1st son Samuel was baptized there a year later. Then the family moved a few miles to the bigger town of Hadleigh where 4 more kids were baptized (one died). They left for the Colonies in 1634. We visited both churches in 2007.” Email from Kristina Turner
