John is described as a Loyalist to Britain in The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, and resident of New Brunswick in 1784. (separate record for his father Rev John Sayre).
He is mentioned in the land release after his father's death (releasing any claim on the land in New Brunswick to James his brother).
"He continued to live in New Brunswick" (his mother left and returned to the United States, but other siblings stayed)[1]

JOHN SAYRE, born Dec. 10, 1764; married Eleanor Thompson, an English lady. He was a sea captain. He drew lot No. 37, at St. John, N. B., in 1784. He resided, in 1816, in Baltimore, Md., and had seven children. He was still living in 1851.

He was a tobacconist and died in Baltimore, Dec. 26, 1879. JAMES' CHILDREN, BY FIRST MARRIAGE: 1. William Henry, b. in Washington, D. C, 1832 ; m. Jan. 2, 1862, Sarah Elizabeth Hamilton; b. in Baltimore Co., Md., 1843. They reside in Baltimore. WH's CHILD: 1. Ivan Hamilton, b. Aug. 10, 1863; m. Aug. 25, 1893, Maggie H. Zile. March 13, 1859, George Henry Stewart, a machinist, who was born in Virginia, April 7, 1834, and died in Baltimore, Sept. 27, 1891. Laura's children (plus four died in infancy). 1 George Whaley Stewart, m. Dec. 19, 1884, Edith Kent. 2 Lillian Irene Stewart, m. July 9, 1891, Frank L. Kilmer. They all reside in Baltimore. 3 Evelina Josephine, b. Dec. 2, 1836 ; m. Benjamin Alonzo Davis, and died Oct. 23, 1889. 4 James Louis, b. May 8, 1838; m. Sept. 19, 1878, Josephine May Hill, who was born in Augusta, Ga., May 25, 1854. He died June 30, 1881. child. James Lewis, b. Aug. 8, 1879.
3) FRANCIS, b. in Baltimore; m. there, Harriet Winters. He was a cane and whip maker; d. in New York. CHILDREN. 1. George. 2 Thomas. 3 William, living in California.
