- 1745 Born: "at five on Tuesday morning. (pg 233) - Baptized: "in the New Building, by Rev. Gilbert Tennent, on the Lord's day, in the
afternoon,"
- Pg 232-33: Attended Dr. Samuel Finley's school in Nottingham, Maryland and graduated from Princeton in 1782.
Occupation:
- Nov 1762-Oct 1764: joined His Magesty's navy, returning to Philadelphia March 2, 1765.
- 1767 he moved to New York City to work for Garret Noel in his book store.
- 1766 appointed administrator of his father Samuel's estate after his uncle Nathaniel's death in 1765. (see ABSTRACTS OF WILLS ON FILE

- 1770-1774 he was a partner with Mr. Noel, the firm's name being Noel & Hazard. (Note: there was also a firm named Benedict & Hazard but
author doesn't know if this was Ebenezer or a relative. Seems I remember reading of this firm in a bio of Benedict Arnold?)
- 1775 appointed superintendent of the Post Office, eastern post, headquartered in New York, therefore the 1st postmast of NYC.
- 1777 appointed surveyor of the Post roads and offices.
- 1780 wrote a life of Rev. Samuel Finley (his Uncle).
- 1782-89 Postmaster General of US
- Editor of American history books; acted as advisor to Charles Thomson on his tranlation of the Bible, finally printed in 1808 by Miss
Aitken, dau of Mr. Aitken the printer. (Note: is this the Mr. Aitken mentioned in "Memoirs of Mathew Clarkson?"
- 1783 Married in New Jersey at the home of Samuel Breese by Rev. Dr. Woodhull. Resided in a home across from Christ Churchyard gate on
Arch St.
- 1785, April moved to 55 Queen St, New York City.
- 1786, May 1 moved to 58 Broadway, New York City.
- 1787, May 1 moved to 29 Broadway, New York City.
- 1790 appointed 1 of 3 appraisors of West Point prior to purchase by US Gov.
- 1790 returned to Philadelphia and lived at 189 W. 2nd St., Philadelphia.
- 1791-1792 partners with Jonas Addoms, firm Hazard & Addoms, as brokers and commission merchants.
- 1792 built his home at 145 Arch St, Philadelphia, PA where he died.
- 1794 founded the insurance company called Universal Tontine Assoc, later became North American Insurance Co. He was, also, secretary and
agent for the Washington Tontine which bought lots and built houses in Wash. DC.
- 1800, May 10 elected a member of the "Humane Society for Recovering Persons from Suspended Animation, or Drowning."
- Member of the Massachusetts and New York Historical Societies.
- Remains moved from Arch St. Cem to Laurel Hill along with other family members.
