Opened a shop at the site of Lynch & Dugan’s garage on Pine St. in Catasauqua.

Across Pine from the foundry was a blacksmith shop. Once part of the Peter firm, John Koons opened the shop in 1855, and James Fahier succeeded him in 1867 and ran it for over 50 years, in partnership with his soa Fahier was mamed to Susanne Driesbach, Originally from Egypt, they moved to 735 3rd St here in 1884. In the 1890 William s' Directory, James Bahler was identified as a horseshoer working here (living at 3rd and Walnut) as was Henry Buck (living on Second St, two doors up from the Upper Second Street school). who is also shown as co-owner of the blacksmith shop at that time. The site later became a garage. The map is from 1885.

James Fahler, of Catasauqua, was born in North Whitehall Township July 2, 1836. He learned the blacksmith trade when sixteen years of age and has followed it ever since, a period of sixty years. Since 1884, he resides at 135 Third Street, Catasauqua. He and family are members of the United Evangelical Church. He served as treasurer of the Sunday school for twelve years, and as trustee of the church for many years. In 1855, he was married to Susanna Dreisbach, a daughter of Jacob and Magdalena (Bleim) Dreisbach, of Allen Township. She was born July 4, 1825, and died May 20, 1902. They had children as follows: Alvesta, married to Eugene Brader. Mr. Brader accidentally caught in the cogwheels of a flourmill at Tamaqua. Issue: Mabel; Flossie, deceased; Winifred F., married to A. K, Mertz; Francis J., blacksmith, of Catasauqua, married to Hannah Frantz: issue, Eva, Hattie, Verna and Thomas J, deceased; Mary M., married to Preston Weaver; issue, Edwin, Carrie, Mabel, Charles, Mary, Ralph and Marian.
