John Peter Schreiber, born May 27, 1763, was a farmer in Whitehall and is said to have been the strongest man in his vicinity and at one time carried nine bushels of rye on his shoulders. He was six feet in height, and although a quiet and peaceful man would frequently attend battalions and other entertainments, where he was invariably victorious over all corners. He died Aug. 24, 1834, and is buried at Egypt He married, in 1803, Susanna Deshler, who died March 23, 1857. They had two daughters: Mary, married to Stephen Hagenbuch, who later removed to Ohio; and Amanda, wife of Aaron Dech, of near Rittersville.
