William Walter Gibson had an interest in agriculture which took him as a young man to Rutgers University for courses in this field. Having been raised on a farm, and, having an interest in growing fruit, he established several orchards on the family farm. He grew apples, peaches, pears and plums. He was one of the first farmers in his area of the country to attempt grafting and produced the first nectarine crops of the region. After leaving the farm circa 1942 he held various jobs and dabbled in politics.
W. Walter died of a heart attack in 1959, about two years after he retired.
