Cathryn Elizabeth Gibson graduated from the Orange (New Jersey) Memorial Nursing school in 1941 and worked as a registered nurse almost forty-five years before retiring. If anyone, be they neighbor or friend, needed her nursing assistance, she would help without complaint or recompense. Her hobbies included knitting and rug hooking and she loved traveling to New York City to attend plays, the ballet and the opera. She was a member of the Eastern Star and an advisor to the Rainbow Girls, both Protestant fraternal organizations. She was also an accomplished cook. She had a talent for being able to make gourmet-like meals without recipes. Her guests would tell her that her gravy was the best they had ever tasted.
