Misc. Notes
Baptised 4th Oct 1863.[1] Middle name Thomas assumed at marriage.
She was granted a passport on 4th April 1923, while living in Minneapolis, with the intention of touring in the British Isles, France and Switzerland.[2] The plan was to sail on the DORIC from Montreal on 26th May.
However, on 2nd June 1923 she arrived with the family at Liverpool on the SS MONTCLARE, Canadian Pacific Line from Quebec.[3](Coincidentally the MONTCLARE was later requisitioned by the Royal Navy, and a distant cousin Lance Barrington, a wartime Navy pilot, did his post-war naval sea training on board this HMS MONTCLARE).
A letter in Barrington family possession shows that she and Perry lived at Oakdale Farm, Excelsior, Minnesota, in September 1949. She writes about the trip to U.K. in 1923: "We did try so hard to find Hannah. It do try me that nobody remembered the name Bryn Coch, for we passed the remains of the old furnace." (referring to the Ynyscedwyn ironworks of her ancestor David Thomas). Also she refers to the American settlement of her family since the arrival of David Thomas: Catasauqua: : "You know the furnaces in Pennsylvania are all pulled down, but I want to go back once more, altho only my sister Kit is left". She describes a visit to Minneapolis to see the family: "Helen and I drove into Minneapolis to see her four grandchildren, and the baby, not a year old was full of mischief and danced most of the time we were there."
