He came to Catasauqua with his parents in his early years. With the outbreak of the War Between the States he enlist in Company F, Forty-seventh Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, under the command of Captain Henry S. Harte. He mustered into service on August 30, 1861 and was elected 1st Lieutenant. He was discharged on a Surgeon's certificate on June 22, 1864, because of injuries he sustained during the war. Lieutenant George W. Fuller died at Dry Tortugas, Florida on September 29, 1864, and his body was shipped home and interred at Fairview Cemetery. The Grand Army of the Republic post organized at Catasauqua after the war was named in his honor.
