Roger resided with his parents in Winnetka, Illinois, except for a period of Naval Service in World War II. He attended North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, and Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, where he graduated in 1938. He entered the Navy in August 1940, and was commissioned Ensign USNR in 1941. He served as Commanding Officer of the Mine Sweeper YMS 88 for two years, 1942-43, and in June 1944 reported to Commander Transport Squadron Twelve (Commodore Knowles) where he served on his staff as Logistics Officer until the end of the war. He returned to inactive duty in 1946 as a Lieutenant Commander. From 1946-1951 he was a security salesman with Glore, Forgan & Company of Chicago, 1951-53 he served in the Trust Department of the Northern Trust Company. He was Assistant to the President of the Midwest Stock Exchange 1953-4, and 1954-63 he was an Investment Analyst with Clark Street Associates ~ a private investment group). In 1963 he went with the Trust Department of the Continental Illinois National Trust and Savings Bank until 1966 when he removed to Madison, New Jersey, and entered the firm of Cryus J. Lawrence, Inc. of New York, in the private investors service department. He is a member of the Financial Analysts Society, and has the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst. From 1971-75 he served as an Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Madison.
